En 1996, Alex Vreeke, un adolescent, récupère un jeu de plateau, le Jumanji, que son père a trouvé dans le sable en faisant son jogging sur la plage. Vingt ans plus tard, Spencer, Bethany, Martha et Anthony, quatre amis de lycée, sont collés pour différentes raisons et se retrouvent dans la salle d'informatique de l'établissement. C'est là qu'ils trouvent une vieille console de jeu vidéo et démarrent une partie de Jumanji, après avoir choisi chacun un avatar. De façon inexplicable, ils sont aussitôt propulsés dans le jeu, sous la forme de leurs avatars.

    Holy crap. Didn't care about Deadpool 2. Didn't care about Antman and the Wasp. Don't care for Aquaman. Don't care for Shazam.\nBut this, I want to see this. Tom Hardy is awesome, and this looks so brutal. Not DC edgy type brutal, but just hold nothing back on bad guys brutal. And that makes it interesting, fresh and true.\nAlso, first villain in years that actually terrifies me."
