Bertrand, la quarantaine, est cinéaste. Pour l'heure, il peine à terminer un scénario. L'idée de la mort l'obsède et, lors d'un repérage dans une entreprise de pompes funèbres, il passe une nuit entière dans un cercueil. Quelques jours plus tard, alors quÕil cherche à entrer à nouveau dans le magasin funéraire, un inconnu lui en ouvre la porte puis lui propose de se joindre à lui et à sa communauté, dans une maison isolée en pleine campagne. Il y est question, grâce au jeûne et à la méditation, de retrouver le plaisir.
